[Sidefx-houdini-list] shop_materialpath error message

I just hit this exact same thing actually, and submitted a "please have a
more verbose error message" to SESI.
I worked around it by using Python (speed of execution is not important in
my case) with a try/except around it. Which worked but was waaaay more
typing than was actually needed.
