Hm, I got radically different results distributing sims of fire vs non-distributed.  Maybe for slowing moving fluids you can get away with it, but for my tests the results of distributed sims were just wrong.  No problems of course with up-rez sims.

it has been submitted as a bug and hopefully squashed sooner rather
than later. Distributed simulation can be used for low res or upres
its just that some artifactting can show up when used in the base
simulation depending on your simulation.
