FWIW, in Houdini 11, you can set your gamma by:
1. From the main menu choose, Edit > Color Settings > Color Correction
2. Set the Gamma to 2.2 and then enable ALL the toggles below.
3. Hit Apply and Save As Default.
This procedure change most of the places that use gamma correction in
Houdini to 2.2 except for standalone mplay (and a few other places?).
Notably, this procedure will also set the "Color Picker and Swatches" to
use a 2.2 gamma correction for display. This means that the artist can
now pick their color parameters in "linear" space obviating the need for
the shader to apply the 1/2.2 exponent. This assumes though that ALL the
artists on your project picked their colors this way.
