[Sidefx-houdini-list] Hardware and rendering speeds

Hi Grav,

Some possible thoughts:

1) Does it still render slowly to a file, or just to MPlay? If the card
is very slow at redrawing (for whatever reason) the constant image
updates may cut into your rendering time.

2) How much memory do you have installed on the system? Sometimes cards
with more RAM installed on them can take up a greater portion of system
RAM as well, which might be affecting how the system is running.

3) Try disabling all the extra cra-, er, applications, that video driver
installs tend to install these days.

I've also heard rumours that the core i7 and the ATI/AMD cards aren't
playing nice together lately, and that this is supposedly being fixed in
an upcoming driver release. If you haven't already, try installing a new
driver. If that doesn't work, you may want to go back to the Nvidia
driver until AMD announces they've fixed the problem.
