Salut Francois,
I can't seem to find an example scene called ponytail...
I would be more than happy if you could share it.
Man Houdini sure has a huge learning curve. My head hurts at the end of the day! I'm more of the artistic type than of the technical one...

I've made an example file for SideFx called PonyTail that shows this and 
also how you can set the stiffness on a point basis as Alvin said. It 
might be included in the latest build but if it's not let me know and 
I'll send it to you if SideFx agree.
