Advanced VEX Coding

Side Effects Software is hosting a one-day
advanced-level training course on VEX coding

The focus will be on advanced techniques using VEX to generate a variety
of effects. Examples of VEX SOPs, POPs, shaders, and pipeline concepts
will be demonstrated. Emphasis will be on ASCII VEX code although all
concepts will be applicable to VOP net programming. The VEX workshop
will be hands-on and attendees will see how to create complex tools for
production, and should learn a couple of new tricks and gain some useful
source code.

The instructor for this course will be Ivan DeWolf, founder of Martian
Labs, a Hollywood-based visual effects company and a premier plug-in
developer for Houdini. After studying fine art, Ivan DeWolf trained
himself in programming image creation tools and has created visual
effects on over 25 feature films as well as numerous TV shows,
commercials and music videos. He is also the developer of Hydrous Tools,
an ocean surface simulation software used by leading effects companies,
including Digital Domain, Rhythm & Hues, and A52.

This course is for Shader writers, programmers, technical directors, and
the curious. This course will be a good introduction to the central
programming language embedded in Houdini for technical people who have
familiarity with other animation systems to learn how to create tools
for Houdini. There will be some basic math.

This course is designed for people with a basic familiarity with Houdini.
