Larry,

The tutorial section on our site is growing with a few new lessons 
available online right now. We are looking into more tutorial videos 
with a focus on basic concepts for the new year:

be very helpful despite being a couple versions old:

And there is a great book coming out at the end of this month called 
"The Magic of Houdini" which is written by Will Cunningham and
